Why do we use bamboo pulp paper instead of wood pulp paper now

Bamboo pulp papers are more bacteriostatic and healthier.
It is a common fact that bamboo can thrive naturally without using any pesticide. Scientists found that bamboo owns a unique anti -bacteria and bacteriostatic bio-agent named "bamboo Kun". This substance is combined with bamboo cellulose during the process of being manufactured into bamboo fiber. Under the microscope, you can find out that the bacteria on the wood pulp paper will rapidly reproduce, while the bacteria on the bamboo pulp paper will not only not reproduce, but also die 72% within 24 hours. This is because the "bamboo Kun" in bamboo is a natural bactericidal component, which can prevent insects and stink, inhibit the growth of bacteria and protect the environment naturally.

Bamboo fiber has particular and natural functions of anti-bacteria, bacteriostatic and deodorization. It is validated by Japan Textile Inspection Association that even after fifty times of washing bamboo fiber fabric still possesses excellent function of anti-bacteria. Its test result show over 70% elimination rate after bacteria being incubated on bamboo fiber fabric.

Uses fast-growing grasses, not trees
Because bamboo and sugar cane are grasses rather than hardwoods, they both grow very quickly and, after harvest, grow back just as quickly – in as little as three to four months (trees can take up to 30 years to grow). No replanting is necessary - unlike trees, which never grow back after being cut down. About 83 million rolls of toilet paper are produced from trees each day.

Kind on the environment
Switching to STIN bamboo paper can help save rainforests, water, and wildlife, and can make a real impact on reversing climate change. Bamboo can grow in environments with depleted soil and little water and actually returns nutrients to the soil, which improves degraded areas. Bamboo also doesn't require fertilizers, insecticides or pesticides. An added and very important benefit is that STIN paper is made from bamboo species that are not food sources for pandas.

The sustainable alternative
Switching to STIN bamboo paper can help you move toward a more sustainable lifestyle. In fact it’s probably one of the easiest things you can do to help the environment in your daily life. If you operate a business, switching to STIN bamboo paper can contribute toward your company’s sustainability goals.

More eco-friendly than recycled paper
Recycling or processing a tree into tissue can take much more water and energy than the minimal processing necessary to turn bamboo and sugarcane into paper. BPA can also be found in recycled tissue after deinking and cleaning recycled paper. STIN bamboo paper is 100% BPA free.
Softer and stronger than recycled paper. Unlike recycled bath tissue, which can be rough or thin, bamboo fibres produce a much softer product than recycled paper. And it’s strong, too – bamboo’s natural qualities make a paper that’s been tested to be stronger than recycled tissue of the same weight.

100% biodegradable
Bamboo bath tissue is 100% biodegradable. It's fibers quickly dissolve back into the earth – making it safe for all septic systems.

The difference between bamboo pulp paper and wood pulp paper

Bamboo pulp paper is getting more and more popular in China due to its healthier and more environment-friendly characteristics. Here are the main differences between bamboo pulp paper and wood pulp paper:
1.Different raw materials
Wood pulp paper generally refers to the paper made of high quality wood as raw material, which is made by beating pulp, cooking and other processes, with fine paper, soft, smooth surface and good toughness. The paper towels made of inferior base paper are rough, loose, porous, and poor expansion intensity, resulting in paper scraps and paper hair left at the wiping place, affecting the use of paper. In addition, the color of tissue made of inferior base paper is not white enough, which often results in excessive use of fluorescent brightener.

Bamboo pulp paper is produced by using bamboo pulp alone or with wood pulp and straw pulp with reasonable proportion through pulping and rinsing and other paper-making processes. The performance of bamboo pulp is between coniferous wood and broadleaved wood, which is obviously superior to that of grass. Pulp, can replace broad-leaved wood pulp and reduce the amount of coniferous wood pulp, used to make a variety of paper, including a variety of high-grade paper products.

2.Bamboo pulp paper is softer
People who are used to bamboo pulp paper know that wood pulp paper is rough. Because the wood pulp itself is relatively loose and rough, the paper holes produced are sparse and many empty, and the expansibility is poor. The drag will leave paper scraps and small fibers, and the long-term use is not friendly to the respiratory tract. The bamboo fiber is flexible and fine, and the paper is more soft and delicate, without paper scraps, which will not cause allergy.

3.Bamboo pulp paper is stronger and more tear resistant
The ordinary wood pulp paper will be damaged once it is touched with water, and the scraps of paper will stick everywhere. Bamboo pulp paper will not leave paper scraps after wiping, even if the whole paper is soaked in water, it can resist pulling to a certain extent, and will not easily break.

4.Bamboo pulp paper is more environment-friendly and biodegradable
Wood pulp paper-making will consume a lot of forest resources. The total amount of wood consumed in papermaking is 10 million cubic meters per year, which can fill the whole west lake. Forest regeneration is very slow, which leads to the consumption of more forest resources. Bamboo grows very fast. The fastest bamboo can be made into bamboo in only two months, and can be regenerated within three years after cutting. It is a recyclable paper-making material.

As a regenerated cellulose fiber; bamboo fiber is 100% made from bamboo through a high-tech process. The raw material bamboo is well-selected from non-polluted regions in Yunnan and Sicuan Province, China. They are all 3-4 years old new bamboo, of good character and ideal temper. The whole distilling and production process is a relatively green process without pollution. China is the country with the most abundant bamboo resources in the world. In terms of plantation area, China's bamboo forest area is about 5.5 million Hm2, ranking the first in the world. In terms of species, there are 48 genera and more than 500 species of bamboo in China. Among them, small miscellaneous bamboo, Moso bamboo, Dayuan bamboo and depigmentated bamboo are commonly used in the paper industry, which are widely distributed in Sichuan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and other provinces.

5.Bamboo pulp papers are more bacteriostatic and healthier.
It is a common fact that bamboo can thrive naturally without using any pesticide. Scientists found that bamboo owns a unique anti -bacteria and bacteriostatic bio-agent named "bamboo Kun". How to make bamboo pulp ?

Bamboo pulp making can be simply classified into materials preparation, pulp cooking, pulp washing and pulp bleaching

Materials Preparation
Due to the seasonality of bamboo cutting, for ensuring the continuous production, the pulp mill must stock a certain amount of bamboo. Generally, the bamboo storage capacity should be used for 3-6 months. New bamboo should be dried by the air and de-greening. As for the stacking and unstacking of the bamboo bundle, portable belt conveyor and loader will be the best helper.
After bamboo bundle enters the pulp mill, it is cut into bamboo chips by the bamboo cutter and is stored with other chips. The size of bamboo chips is 10-25mm.

When the bamboo is stored in the open system, the position in the process should be designed according to the principle of first screening and last storage. This kind of principle can remove the bamboo sawdust from the screening bamboo chips. The fermentation and mildew of bamboo chips are avoidable in the storage of bamboo. The qualified bamboo chips are sent to storage. The long bamboo will be back to bamboo cutter and sawdust will be used as waste and burned in the boiler. The stored bamboo chips are used in according with the first-in-first-out principle. Ensuring the full use of bamboo chips and avoids the stored bamboo chips go bad because of long-term storage. It is necessary to wash bamboo chips in the process of materials preparation. Remove the loam among the bamboo chips, which reduce the wearing, scaling of paper pulper and silicon interference.

Bamboo Pulp Cooking
The qualified bamboo chips in the preparation through the conveyor enter into the pulper. After bamboo feed into pulper, pour the black liquor from the bottom of pulper, presoak the bamboo chips, and remove the air from the bamboo chips. Use the high-temperature black liquor and hot white liquor displace the black liquor in the pulper. Control the temperature in the pulper up to 145℃, and heat the pulper with steam, raise the temperature to the cooking temperature and keep it. When the reaction reaches the settled H factor, send the warm and weak black liquor of pulp washing process into the bottom of pulper, displace the high-temperature black liquor and reduce the temperature in the pulper to 100℃. For bamboo pulp making, it generally adopts kraft process. The kraft process has high digester yield, high strength, less pollution, soft fiber, and mature technology of alkali recovery. Compared to the wood, the bamboo is easier to cook because of its composition. The paper pulper machine adopts the vertical and continuous pulp digester. In general, the cold blow is typical choice, it not only recovery the rest heat, but also avoid the leakage of flue gas. Besides, reduce the steam consumption and pyrolysis of pulp, improve the strength of the fiber. In the real bamboo pulp processing, due to the dense structure of bamboo and the difficulty of air removing in the conduit, bamboo pulp cooking require longer penetration time. Penetration time for raising temperature is 1.5-2h, penetration time for keeping temperature is 2-2.5h. As we all know, there are vertical pulper and horizontal pulper. Different specifications of pulpers for bamboo pulp making as below:

Bamboo Pulp Washing and Screening
The practice has proven that bamboo fiber is long, and it has good drainability. The bamboo pulp is easier to wash compared with other straw pulp, even the hardwood pulp. The common equipment for bamboo pulp washing process includes vacuum washer, pressure pulp washer, and Horizontal belt filter. Generally, the large-scale bamboo pulp production line can use twin roll press or DD washer. Vacuum washer is more suitable in overall consideration.Bamboo pulp screening and cleaning mainly remove the crude residue, dust, sand. Bamboo pulp making will produce a lot of crude residues, they are the knots that are not cooked sufficiently. These crude residues are not suitable to cook or produce a bad influence on the bamboo paper quality. The bamboo pulp washing adopts multi-section countercurrent washing can efficiently extract black liquor and ensure the alkali recovery. The bamboo pulp adopts close screening system, screening concentrations are 2-3%. This type of technical combination save water, reduce the pollution and require less treatment of slurry-residue.

Bamboo Pulp Bleaching
The pulp bleaching is used to improve the pulp whiteness, keep the strength of bamboo pulp and reduce the pollution. Because the oxygen delignification and medium consistency technology mature gradually, bleaching process is the short process with 3-4 stages. To meet the strict requirement of environmental protection, bleach agent uses chlorine dioxide to replace. As for the choice of bleaching, there are ECF, TCF, EPP, ZXP, TCF, ECF, CEH, and etc. Currently, the ECF is still the best popular and efficient pulp bleaching process. But from the economic considerations, CEH is more applicable.

Advantages of Bamboo Pulp
Bamboo pulp has medium-length fiber, so it is thin and soft, and also has high bulk and tearing strength, low tensile index and burst index. If you are interested in sourcing bamboo pulp making machinery and equipment from China, please feel free to contact us for details.

What is bamboo pulp

The bamboo pulp is one kind of paper pulp like wood pulp, straw pulp or reed pulp. The bamboo pulp is usually made from moso bamboo, phyllostachys pubescens and sinocalamus affinis by sulfate digestion process or soda process. The unbleached bamboo paper is generally applied to package paper-making.

Bamboo pulp can be made into bamboo paper. Bamboo paper is strong and it has wide applications. The bleached bamboo paper is used to manufacture offset paper, typing paper and high-grade culture paper. The unbleached bamboo paper is generally applied to package papermaking. Besides, bamboo pulp and wood pulp can be mixed and used to make cable paper, insulation paper, and cement bag paper.

Bamboo pulp is a viscous solution of bamboo fibers, water, and chemicals used to produce paper and fabrics. Bamboo is a woody, perennial plant belonging to the grass family, which features fibers similar to softwoods in terms of length and strength. The fibers also possess strong anti-bacterial qualities which greatly enhance the properties of items manufactured from bamboo pulp. The pulp is produced in much the same way as wood pulps, with several processes pulping both hard and soft wood varieties in tandem with bamboo. The process involves reducing finely-chipped bamboo to a pulp by“cooking”the chips under pressure in a water and chemical solution in a pressure vessel.

Bamboo is a fast-growing, evergreen plant belonging to the botanical family of grasses. It has long been used as a construction material and as a source of implements, weapons, and ornaments in several global regions, particularly in Asia. In these regions, bamboo pulp has also been used to make high-grade papers for many years. Recent green trends have, however, seen significant amounts of attention paid to the many uses of the plant in other world regions. The fact that many bamboo species grow up to 3.3 feet (1 meter) per day along with several noteworthy physical properties make bamboo an extremely attractive and highly sustainable source of many end products, including bamboo pulp for the manufacture of textiles and paper.

In terms of length and strength, the fibers of bamboo plants are similar to those of softwoods, such as pine and fir, traditionally used to produce the wood pulps destined for paper manufacture. In fact, bamboo is often pulped in tandem with both soft and hard wood varieties due to these similarities. The bamboo fibers also possess anti-bacterial qualities that prevent the formation and spread of bacteria and mildew in fabrics and paper produced from bamboo pulp. In addition, bamboo fibers contain high concentrations of cellulose resulting in strong, robust end products.

The manufacture of bamboo pulp involves chipping the bamboo stems to form a fine aggregate. The chips are then “cooked,” or heated under pressure, in a vessel known as a digester in a solution of water and chemicals. This process breaks the fibers down into a viscous pulp which, when completely digested, is subjected to several clarification stages to remove the chemicals and suspended impurities. The pulp is then dried by drawing residual water from the pulp by means of a vacuum pump and allowing the resultant semi-moist mass to either dry in a batch oven or naturally in the open air. At this point, the dry pulp is compacted into sheets or bales in readiness for distribution.
